Every Creative template is ATS-friendly
All CraftMyDocs templates are tested against Applicant Tracking Systems, so your resume parses cleanly and reaches a human recruiter. Pick a creative design, then customize colors, fonts, and sections — your content stays intact even if you switch templates later. Add AI-written bullet points and a real-time ATS score as you go.
Where a creative resume helps — and where a portfolio should do the work
A creative template signals taste before a word is read: a strong typographic name block, deliberate use of colour, an asymmetric grid. That matters for designers, art directors, copywriters, illustrators and brand roles, where the resume is itself a small design brief. It matters far less than the portfolio, though. The resume's job is to get your portfolio link clicked and to prove you have shipped work in real constraints — clients, deadlines, budgets. Treat the layout as evidence of judgement, not as the place to show range; one confident idea beats five.
Keeping creative layouts readable by software
Creative agencies and in-house studios use the same applicant tracking systems as everyone else, so the design has to survive a text extraction. These templates achieve their look with typography, colour blocks behind headings and grid proportion — all of which parse as plain text — rather than with rotated text, text set inside images, or skill meters. Keep your name, contact details, employers, titles and dates as live text. If a template variant offers a decorative cover element, remember that some systems read only the first page: your current role should still start on page one.
Content that creative directors actually look for
Name the brands, campaigns and products, and say what your part was — "lead designer on the rebrand" rather than "worked on the rebrand". Quantify where the industry does: audience reached, conversion lift, awards, print run, app store rating. List tools honestly and in tiers (expert / working). Put the portfolio URL in the header, not buried in the footer, and make sure the linked page loads fast on a phone — that click is the real interview request. A short Selected Work section with three projects, one line each, often earns more than a long experience list.
Creative resume template FAQs
Won't a designed resume get rejected by an ATS?
Only if the design relies on things a parser cannot read: text inside images, icon-only contact details, skill bars or complex tables. The creative templates here get their look from type, colour and layout proportion, all of which extract as ordinary text. Run the ATS checker after you export to confirm every section is detected.
Should I match the resume design to my portfolio?
Loosely, yes — same typeface family and accent colour is enough to feel like one body of work. Do not rebuild the portfolio's full identity on a one-page document; the resume needs to be legible when printed in black and white by a recruiter who has never seen your site.
How many colours can I use?
One accent plus black and one grey. The templates enforce this through a single accent variable in Customize, so changing the colour changes it everywhere consistently. If your discipline is colour-led (illustration, motion), show that in the portfolio, not the resume.
Is it acceptable to include a photo on a creative resume?
Regional norms still apply: no photo for US, UK, Canadian and Australian applications regardless of industry. Where photos are customary, upload a small, well-lit headshot in the Contact step; it renders only on the templates that have a photo slot.
