How to watermark

Frequently asked questions
Can the watermark be removed by the recipient?
A determined person with PDF editing software can remove any watermark, so it is a deterrent and a label, not security. To prevent copying and editing, combine it with Protect PDF, which encrypts the file and sets an open password.
Can I add an image or logo as the watermark?
This tool stamps text only. To place a logo, open the file in Edit PDF, insert the image and reduce its opacity, then save — that works well for a one-page letterhead but is manual for long documents.
Does the watermark sit over or under the content?
Over the content, at the opacity you set, which is what keeps it visible on top of images and coloured backgrounds. At 20% opacity, body text underneath remains fully readable.
Will the watermark appear when someone prints the PDF?
Yes. It is part of the page content, so it prints and shows in every viewer. It also survives conversion to images with PDF to JPG.
