Convert Image — free online tool
Convert between PNG, JPG and WebP. Each format has a job: PNG is lossless and keeps transparency, which suits logos, screenshots and diagrams; JPG is compact and universally accepted, the right choice for photographs going into documents and forms; WebP is smaller than both and ideal for websites. Pick the target format and the image is re-encoded in your browser. It runs entirely in your browser — your image never leaves your device, there is nothing to install, and it is free with no sign-up.

Frequently asked questions
What happens to transparency when I convert to JPG?
JPG has no transparency, so transparent pixels become white. If you need to keep a transparent background — a logo placed over colour, for instance — convert to PNG or WebP instead.
Is converting JPG to PNG going to improve quality?
No. Compression artefacts already in the JPG are preserved exactly; PNG just stops them getting worse. Convert to PNG when a destination requires it or when you will edit the image further, not to recover detail.
Which format should I use for a photo in my resume or application form?
JPG. It is accepted everywhere, small enough for upload limits, and photographs do not need transparency. Crop to a square with Crop Image first, then convert.
Can I convert HEIC, GIF, TIFF or SVG?
Not currently — inputs are JPG, PNG and WebP. Export HEIC photos as JPG from your phone, and rasterise SVG or TIFF in the application that created them before converting here.
