Crop Image — free online tool

Crop an image to an exact aspect ratio: square for a profile picture, 4:3 or 3:2 for photos, 16:9 for a slide or banner, 2:3 for a portrait print. Choose the ratio, position the crop frame over the part you want to keep, and download the result as a lossless PNG. It runs entirely in your browser — your photo never leaves your device, there is nothing to install, and it is free with no sign-up. Because cropping only removes pixels, the kept area is exactly as sharp as the original.

  • Five ratios: 1:1, 4:3, 3:2, 16:9 and 2:3
  • Drag the frame to choose which part of the image survives
  • Lossless — the pixels you keep are unchanged
  • Accepts JPG, PNG and WebP; transparency preserved in the PNG output
  • Runs in the browser; nothing is uploaded

How to crop image

  1. 1Upload the image.
  2. 2Pick the aspect ratio the destination needs — 1:1 for profile photos, 16:9 for presentation slides.
  3. 3Move the crop frame over the subject.
  4. 4Click Crop Image.
  5. 5Download the PNG, then resize it with Resize Image if the destination also specifies pixel dimensions.

Frequently asked questions

Can I crop freely without a fixed ratio?

The tool is built around fixed ratios because that is what forms, profiles and print sizes require. For a free-form crop, open the image in Edit PDF after converting it with JPG to PDF, or use your device's photo editor.

Which ratio should I use for a resume or LinkedIn photo?

Square (1:1), framed from the top of the head to just below the shoulders with a little space above the head. Most professional platforms display a circle cut from a square, so keep your face centred.

Does cropping reduce the resolution?

It reduces the pixel count to the area kept, but every remaining pixel is untouched. A 4000 × 3000 photo cropped to a centred square becomes 3000 × 3000 at full sharpness. Only Resize Image changes pixel density.

Is metadata removed?

Yes. Like the other image tools, the output is re-encoded through the browser canvas, which drops EXIF data including GPS location. Keep the original if you need the capture details.
