Compress Image — free online tool
Shrink a JPG, PNG or WebP so it uploads faster, fits an attachment limit or loads quickly on a web page — without visibly changing how it looks. The image is re-encoded in your browser as JPG (best for photos) or WebP (smaller still, supported by every modern browser), and the metadata that cameras embed — location, device, timestamps — is stripped in the process. It runs entirely in your browser — your photo never leaves your device, there is nothing to install, and it is free with no sign-up.
- Often 50–80% smaller for photos, with no visible quality loss at normal viewing sizes
- Output as JPG for maximum compatibility or WebP for the smallest files
- EXIF metadata, including GPS location, is removed automatically
- Accepts JPG, PNG and WebP inputs
- Runs on your device, so personal photos stay private

Frequently asked questions
Will the image look worse?
At the compression level used, differences are not visible at normal screen sizes for photographs. Very fine textures, sharp text in screenshots and flat graphics with hard edges compress less well as JPG — for those, use Convert Image to PNG instead, which is lossless.
Why was my PNG turned into a JPG?
PNG is lossless and often large; converting a photo-like PNG to JPG or WebP is where most of the saving comes from. If the image has transparency, choose WebP, which keeps the transparent areas. To keep PNG format, use Resize Image to reduce dimensions instead.
Does it remove the location data from my photos?
Yes. Re-encoding through the browser's canvas drops all EXIF metadata — GPS coordinates, camera model, capture time. That is a privacy benefit when sharing, but it also means the original capture date is gone; keep the original if you need it.
Can I compress several images at once?
One image per run at the moment. For a batch, compress each in turn — each takes under a second — or combine them into a PDF with JPG to PDF and run Compress PDF on the result.
