Academic Resume Templates

Every Academic template is ATS-friendly
All CraftMyDocs templates are tested against Applicant Tracking Systems, so your resume parses cleanly and reaches a human recruiter. Pick a academic design, then customize colors, fonts, and sections — your content stays intact even if you switch templates later. Add AI-written bullet points and a real-time ATS score as you go.
The academic CV is a different document, not a longer resume
Faculty, postdoctoral and research positions are decided on the record — publications, funding, teaching and service — and the academic CV lists all of it. Length is not a constraint; completeness and correct ordering are. Academic templates open with education and current appointment, then move through Research Interests, Publications (grouped: peer-reviewed articles, book chapters, conference papers, preprints), Grants and Fellowships with amounts, Teaching, Supervision, Invited Talks, Service and Professional Memberships. The typography is quiet and the numbering is consistent, because search committees compare CVs side by side.
Handling publications, citations and authorship correctly
Use one citation style throughout (the norm in your discipline — APA, Chicago, Vancouver, ACM) and put your own name in bold in every author list so the reader can see position at a glance. Number publications in reverse chronological order and separate "in press" and "under review" honestly. Include DOIs or links; the templates render them as live text. For grants, give the funder, title, role (PI, Co-I), years and amount. Teaching entries should name the course, level, institution and your role; a line on enrolment or evaluations is welcome where it is strong.
Adapting the academic template for industry or graduate applications
Graduate students applying for PhD programmes or fellowships should keep the academic order but expect two to three pages. Researchers moving into industry should not send the CV; switch to a technical or professional template, compress publications to a count and a link, and rewrite the research as outcomes and methods. The academic templates here let you hide and reorder sections in Customize, so one set of content can produce both a full CV and a two-page research resume without retyping.
Academic resume template FAQs
How long can an academic CV be?
As long as the record requires. Early-career researchers typically have two to four pages; established faculty may have fifteen or more. What matters is that education, current position and the most recent publications appear on page one and that every section is complete and consistently formatted.
Where do conference presentations go?
In their own section, separate from peer-reviewed publications, usually split into invited talks and contributed presentations or posters. List the conference, location and date, and mark any that were refereed. Do not mix them into the publications list; committees notice.
Should I include a teaching philosophy or research statement?
Not in the CV itself — those are separate documents requested by the posting. The CV can carry a short Research Interests section of three to five lines to orient the reader, and the cover letter builder here can produce the accompanying statement from the same content.
Are academic templates readable by university application systems?
Yes. Systems such as Interfolio and institutional HR portals extract text much as corporate ATS do. The academic templates use standard headings, real text throughout and no tables, so publication lists and grants are captured intact.
