Student Resume Templates

Student resume templates are designed for candidates early in their careers, emphasizing education, projects, internships, and skills rather than years of experience. Their layout helps students and new grads make the most of what they've accomplished.

Who student resume templates are best for

  • Students and recent graduates
  • Internship applicants
  • Entry-level and first jobs
  • Career changers with limited experience

Every Student template is ATS-friendly

All CraftMyDocs templates are tested against Applicant Tracking Systems, so your resume parses cleanly and reaches a human recruiter. Pick a student design, then customize colors, fonts, and sections — your content stays intact even if you switch templates later. Add AI-written bullet points and a real-time ATS score as you go.

Building a resume when experience is the shortest section

Student and entry-level templates put Education first — degree, institution, expected graduation, GPA if 3.5 or higher, relevant coursework and honours — and give equal visual weight to Projects, Internships, Leadership and Volunteer sections. That structure lets a first resume fill one page with evidence rather than white space. The layout is clean, single-column and slightly more generous in spacing, so eight or nine short entries look organised rather than padded. Recruiters for internships and graduate programmes read hundreds of these; consistent structure is what makes yours easy to assess.

Turning coursework, projects and part-time jobs into evidence

Treat significant projects like jobs: name, dates, your role, the tools or methods, and the result — "Built a demand-forecasting model in Python for a local bakery as a capstone; reduced their weekly over-order by 18%." Part-time and service roles count: describe the responsibility (cash handling, scheduling, training new staff) and any number you can defend (customers per shift, team size). Leadership in societies, sport or volunteering shows initiative; give the scale (members, budget, events). Keep a short Skills section with software, languages and lab or technical skills — not personality traits.

Common first-resume mistakes the template helps you avoid

Do not include high school once you are in your second year of university. Do not use an Objective; write two lines of summary that say what you study, what you are applying for and one thing you have already done. Avoid listing every module — choose four to six relevant courses. Keep it to one page without shrinking the font below 10.5 pt; the Density control in Customize tightens spacing honestly if you are over. Export as PDF, name the file with your name, and check the ATS score — graduate programmes at large employers screen first-round applications automatically.

Student resume template FAQs

Should I include my GPA?

Include it if it is 3.5 or above (or the equivalent classification), or if the posting asks. Otherwise leave it off and let coursework, projects and honours carry the academic signal. Never round up.

I have no internships yet. What goes in Experience?

Part-time work, campus jobs, volunteering, freelance or family-business work all belong there, described by responsibility and result. Rename the section "Experience" rather than "Work Experience" so projects and leadership can sit alongside if that reads better. Then add a Projects section with two or three substantial pieces of coursework or independent work.

One page — is that a hard rule for students?

Yes, until you have two or more years of full-time experience. Recruiters expect one page and read a second as a lack of editing. If you are over, cut older or weaker entries rather than shrinking the type.

Can I use a student template for a career change?

It works when your most relevant evidence is recent study or retraining. The Career Change category is built for that specifically — it lets you lead with transferable skills and reframe past roles — so start there if you have several years in another field.
