Engineering Resume Templates
Engineering resume templates are structured to present technical skills, certifications, and project outcomes clearly — helping civil, mechanical, and electrical engineers get past ATS keyword filters and demonstrate hands-on impact.

Every Engineering template is ATS-friendly
All CraftMyDocs templates are tested against Applicant Tracking Systems, so your resume parses cleanly and reaches a human recruiter. Pick a engineering design, then customize colors, fonts, and sections — your content stays intact even if you switch templates later. Add AI-written bullet points and a real-time ATS score as you go.
What distinguishes an engineering resume from a technical one
Civil, mechanical, electrical, chemical and manufacturing engineers are hired on licences, standards and project scale rather than on a software stack. Engineering templates therefore surface professional registration (PE, EIT, CEng, P.Eng) and safety credentials at the top, then structure each role around projects: value, scope, standards applied, your responsibility and the outcome. The layout is orderly and technical in feel — a structured grid, clear numbering, restrained colour — and it accommodates a Selected Projects section that most engineering hiring managers read before the chronology.
Describing projects so a chartered engineer takes them seriously
Name the project type and value, your role and the deliverables: "Lead structural engineer for a $28M, 12-storey mixed-use building; produced the concrete design to ACI 318 and coordinated 4 subconsultants through issue for construction." Cite the standards and codes (ASME, IEC, Eurocode, ISO 9001, AS/NZS) and the tools (AutoCAD, Revit, SolidWorks, ETAP, MATLAB, ANSYS). Quantify engineering outcomes: cost saved through redesign, schedule recovered, defect rate reduced, throughput increased, incidents avoided. Safety records (TRIR, LTI-free hours) belong on site-based resumes. Keep patents and technical publications in their own short section.
Structuring for graduates, site engineers and design engineers
Graduate engineers should lead with degree, accreditation and EIT status, then internships and capstone or competition projects with the same project-style detail. Site and field engineers should give the project portfolio with values and their on-site responsibilities (QA/QC, subcontractor coordination, commissioning). Design engineers should emphasise the calculation, modelling and drawing packages they owned and the review gates they passed. The engineering templates let you place Selected Projects above or below Experience in Customize, so the same content serves a design consultancy and a contractor application.
Engineering resume template FAQs
How do I show professional registration or licensure?
Next to your name ("Jane Doe, PE") and in a Licences & Certifications section with the state or body, licence number if you choose, and year. In-progress status (EIT, engineer in training) belongs there too. Registration is often a hard filter, so it must be in text a parser can find.
Should I list software and tools?
Yes, in a grouped Skills section: Design & Modelling, Analysis, Project Controls, Standards. Name versions only where it matters. Do not list Microsoft Office. Tie the important tools into your project bullets as well, so the reader sees them applied.
How many projects should the Selected Projects section carry?
Four to eight, chosen for relevance to the posting and range of scale. Each gets two or three lines: project, value and type; your role and key deliverables; outcome. The full project list belongs in a portfolio or on request, not on the resume.
Do engineering templates work for technicians and drafters?
Yes. Use the same structure with your certifications (NCCER, AWS welding certs, ASNT levels, drafting credentials) at the top and project- or product-based bullets. Show equipment, tolerances, inspection standards and volumes rather than design responsibility.
