All CraftMyDocs templates are tested against Applicant Tracking Systems, so your resume parses cleanly and reaches a human recruiter. Pick a executive design, then customize colors, fonts, and sections — your content stays intact even if you switch templates later. Add AI-written bullet points and a real-time ATS score as you go.
How an executive resume differs from a senior manager's
At director, VP and C-level the reader is a board member, a search partner or a CEO, and they are buying judgement and results at scale, not skills. Executive templates therefore open with a headline and a three-to-five-line leadership summary, followed by a Selected Achievements block of four to six lines before the chronology begins. Each role then states scope first — revenue, P&L, headcount, geography, board or investor relationships — and the bullets describe the turnaround, growth or transformation delivered. The typography is classic and the layout uses space generously; density reads as junior at this level.
What to include, and what to leave to the conversation
Two pages is the norm and three is acceptable for a long C-suite career; the first page must stand alone. Include board seats, advisory roles and significant speaking or publication where relevant to the target. Cut individual contributor detail from more than fifteen years ago to a two-line Early Career entry. Leave out an Objective, references and anything that reads as a task list — executives are not hired for what they did daily. If you have been through an exit, IPO, merger or restructuring, name it and give the scale; these are the moments a search committee asks about.
Formatting conventions search firms expect
Full name and current or most recent title at the top, with city and a single phone and email — no street address. Serif or a restrained sans-serif at 11 pt; wider margins than a standard resume. Company descriptions in one italic line under each employer ("$1.4B publicly listed specialty retailer, 6,000 staff") because the reader may not know the firm. Dates by year are acceptable at this level. Save as PDF, and expect the document to be read on a tablet — the executive templates here hold their proportions on smaller screens and keep every heading as real text for the firm's database.
Executive resume template FAQs
Should an executive resume still pass an ATS?
Yes. Retained search firms and corporate talent teams load resumes into databases and search them by keyword, even when the introduction comes through a network. The executive templates use conventional section names and a single reading order so that your leadership summary and achievements are indexed, not just the chronology.
How long should an executive resume be?
Two pages for most directors and VPs; two to three for a long C-suite record. Page one should carry the headline, leadership summary, selected achievements and your current role in full. If a reader stops there, they should already have the case for a conversation.
Do I list every board and advisory position?
List those relevant to the target sector or to the governance experience the role requires, with dates and the organisation's scale. A long list of minor advisory roles dilutes the signal; three well-chosen entries in a Board & Advisory section reads better than nine.
Is a photo or a personal statement appropriate?
No photo for US, UK, Canadian and Australian searches. A leadership summary is expected, but it should be specific — sectors, scale, the kind of situations you are known for — rather than a statement of values. Let the achievements block carry the evidence.
